YGF Mangshi Household Biogas Tanks Project

The aim of the YGF Mangshi Household Biogas Tanks Project is to generate biogas for the local rural community as an alternative to burning coal and firewood, fuel sources that emit more pollutants and are less energy-efficient. This project involves the installation of biogas tanks for 1,200 households in Mangshi, Yunnan Province, China. An average reduction of over 6,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent per year has been estimated. This project not only benefits the local environment by reducing GHG emissions from the combustion of fossil fuels and firewood, it also gives impoverished local villagers the access to clean and cheap renewable energy.

Guazhou 100MW Solar Power Project

The purpose of this project is to generate electricity using clean and renewable solar energy and the electricity generated will be delivered to China’s Northwest Power Grid. The project, located in Guazhou County of the Gansu Province in NW China, is a grid-connected solar photovoltaic power plant with an installed capacity of 100 MW. The estimated average annual grid-in electricity is 151,855 MWh and 126,206 tonnes of CO2 equivalent are estimated to be reduced each year. The project mitigates air pollution and its adverse impact on human health by reducing CO2, SOx and NOx on a significant scale. It also helps to secure and stabilize electricity supply to the power grid by providing renewable energy. The project has a demonstration effect which helps to promote the application and spread of solar PV technology in China.

Xundian Jinfeng 12.6MW Hydropower Project

The Xundian Jinfeng 12.6MW Hydropower Project is a run-of-river type hydropower project. Operating from 2008, the project consists of two turbine generator sets with a total installed capacity of 12.6MW. Its purpose is to utilize local hydro resource to generate electricity which would otherwise be supplied by fossil fuel-fired power plants. The electricity generated supplies the South China Grid via the Yunnan Power Grid. During the construction period, fifty short-term job opportunities were created for local residents, including the ethnic minorities. Fifteen long-term positions were created during the operation period, 70% of which were recruited from the local community. The average annual salary of staff is higher than that of the local residents. A new 16 km halt road was built to improve road condition. A new water supply project was also implemented to facilitate irrigation and improve drinking water supply. The Project was registered as a CDM project on 29 April, 2010 under UNFCCC reference number 3023, and is expected to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases by an estimated 40,760tCO2e per year during the first crediting period.
