Implications of HKEX Analysis on ESG Reporting

In May 2018, the HK Stock Exchange (“HKEX”) released a report entitled “Analysis of Environment, Social and Governance Practice Disclosure in 2016/2017” (HKEX Analysis). This is a review of the first batch of ESG reports issued by Hong Kong listed companies ever since the HKEX upgraded its ESG Guide to the ‘Comply or Explain’ level. Based on the survey results of the HKEX Analysis, this paper highlights CCA’s further observations and the key messages underpinning the review methodology. It also serves as an easy-to-read guide on the pitfalls that listed companies may face in future ESG reporting.
