The CarbonCare® Label Award Scheme developed by Carbon Care Asia (CCA) celebrates another fruitful year in 2014, when recognition was awarded to 29 organizations for their remarkable carbon management performance and reduction commitment.

In an award ceremony held on 21 Oct, 2014 at the Hong Kong Maritime Museum, officiating guest Prof Joseph J Y Sung, Vice-Chancellor & President, Chinese University of Hong Kong, pointed out that the purpose of the CarbonCare® Label is to recognize and promote successful examples of carbon reduction solutions from organizations in different sectors. He also hoped that by taking concrete actions, individuals can spread the low carbon message to people around them. CCA Chairman Mr Chong Chan Yau echoed this view and emphasized the urgent need for community-wide efforts in tackling climate change.

Besides celebrating their carbon reduction or neutrality achievements, the awardee representatives also went on stage to share the case stories of how low carbon measures are being implemented in their organizations and how CarbonCare® Label has helped their organization in cost saving, brand enhancement, team building and creating innovative products.

A panel discussion focusing on “Carbon Management – Benefits and Opportunities” and moderated by CCA CEO Ir Albert Lai was held after the award presentations. Five heavy-weight panelists were invited to share their insight on the subject, including Ms Eunice Chu, Head of Policy, The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (Hong Kong), Mr Mike Wong, Chief Executive Officer, The Chamber of Hong Kong Listed Companies, Mr Mohan Datwani FCIS FCS, Director, Technical and Research, The Hong Kong Institute of Chartered Secretaries, Dr Victor Lee, Executive Director, Hong Kong Management Association and Dr Jeanne Ng, CLP Group’s Liaison Delegate, World Business Council for Sustainable Development. The panelists saw a growing demand for carbon disclosure and reduction actions from regulatory bodies, professional institutions, investors, corporate stakeholders and the society as a whole. Senior management has to take heed of possible corporate risks associated with climate change and sustainability issues.

The CarbonCare® Label is a unique scheme that encourages and recognizes the efforts of companies and organizations in their action to tackle climate change and achieve carbon reduction/neutrality status by Measuring, Reducing and Offsetting (MRO) their carbon footprints. Since its pilot launch by CCA in late 2011, over 100 labels have been awarded to listed companies, public bodies, SMEs, social enterprises, NGOs, power and construction companies, hotels and property management companies. Various activities such as business summits, sports events, concerts, weddings and festivals have also been awarded this Label.
