Ir Albert Lai, CEO of CCA, has been invited to co-host an one-hour radio programme focusing on global environmental issues and local actions on the Digital Music Station, Metro Radio from 6 Jan, 2014. This programme, called “Green Knowledge”, is broadcast from 11 pm to 12 midnight, every Monday to Friday. Climate change and waste treatment were themes for the first two weeks; followed by an in-depth look into the various environmental policy agenda put forward recently by the HKSAR Government in its 2014 Policy Address. Representatives of the 2013 CarbonCare ® Label Awardees are being invited to the radio programme as special guests to share their views on the environmental challenges facing Hong Kong and their own experience in taking the lead in the industry to combat them.(Radio Programme in Cantonese only)

The UN has named March 21 as the “World Forest Day” since 2013 to alert us of the importance of forest protection to maintain ecological balance and to fight against climate change. In this week’s “Green Knowledge” programme on Metro Digital Radio, CCA CEO Ir Albert Lai will examine how rapid rain forest destruction in recent years has affected our planet’s ecological and climate systems, and what can be done to stop it. Feb 13-14 was named Global Divestment Day, with religious groups, students and civil societies calling for world-wide divestment from fossil fuel industries. World business leaders have also urged for bold climate actions to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. In the meantime, many cities and communities have already embarked on long term energy-saving plans as well as renewable energy projects. CCA CEO Ir Albert Lai will introduce various recent events and cases to illustrate how individuals, local communities, business and governments can work together and contribute to what the 2015 UN Climate Conference (COP21 in Paris) is calling for – an “Agenda of Solutions” to climate change impacts. Of the 9,000 tonnes of solid wastes thrown away everyday at landfills in Hong Kong, about 40% come from food waste. To reduce waste, the HKSAR Government has proposed to set up a network of 5 to 6 organic waste treatment plants in the next 10 years. The first of its kind, located at Siu Ho Wan in Lantau, has just obtained funding approval by LegCo. How can these new facilities help Hong Kong in treating food waste, recycling it and even turning it into biogas? Can we draw reference from similar programmes in South Korea and Taiwan?
