CarbonCare® Label for Organisations

CarbonCare® Label

The CarbonCare® Label is a unique performance recognition scheme. As of 2021, over 450 labels have been awarded to listed companies, private companies, government departments, public bodies, social enterprises, NGOs, hotels, commercial buildings and venues since its launch in late 2011.

CarbonCare® Labels are issued by CarbonCare InnoLab (CCIL), a non-profit organisation dedicated to the nurturing and development of innovative solutions, policies and practices in response to today’s climate change and sustainability challenges. Verification services are provided by CCA.

CarbonCare® Label for entity-wide carbon management

CarbonCare® Label & CarbonCare® Champion Label

The CarbonCare® Label encourages and recognizes the efforts of companies and organisations in their action to tackle climate change and achieve carbon reduction by Measuring, Reducing and Offsetting (MRO) their carbon footprints.

The gold CarbonCare® Champion Label indicates the achievement of carbon neutrality through emissions reduction followed by total offsets.

CarbonCare® ESG Label for best practice in ESG reporting

The CarbonCare® ESG Label is consistently upgraded to reflect the latest local and international trends, regulatory requirements and community aspirations. It gives special recognition to best performers in ESG reporting in four important areas: company board accountability, materiality assessment, disclosure of social KPIs, and corporate climate actions.

CarbonCare® Circularity Label for contribution to a circular economy

The CarbonCare® Circularity Label aims to provide a framework for public or private sector organisations keen to introduce Circular Economy concepts into their operations. Starting with paper products for the pilot phase, the Label will quantitatively measure the recycling performance of the applicants.

CarbonCare® Construction (Process) Label for Construction Project Site Carbon Management

The CarbonCare® Construction (Process) Label encourages and recognises the efforts of companies to achieve carbon reduction at the project site throughout the construction processes by Measuring, Reducing and Offsetting (MRO) their carbon footprints.

The CarbonCare® Construction (Material) Label encourages and recognises the efforts of companies to achieve carbon reduction of the construction materials by Measuring, Reducing and Offsetting (MRO) the embodied carbon.

CarbonCare® Star Label for special recognition to committed achievers

Committed achievers who have attained the CarbonCare® Label or the CarbonCare® Champion Label continuously over a period of three years or more (including the current year) may be awarded an additional CarbonCare® Star Label as a special recognition.

CarbonCare® Label Advisory Panel

The CarbonCare® Label is governed by a proprietary protocol which has incorporated the best practices in the areas of measurement and monitoring of GHG emissions, i.e. GHG Protocol, ISO14064-1 and PAS2060. It aims to provide a credible, transparent and practical framework which can be consistently applied across a broad range of entities, products and services.

The quality of the label and the integrity of the protocol are overseen by an Expert Advisory Panel which comprises leading academics in the field of carbon management, environmental engineering and sustainable development in Hong Kong.

Brands For Good CarbonCare Label

Brands for Good is an NGO that aims to recognise businesses that not only make a difference but also commit as stewards for a positive impact. Launched in 2018, Brands for Good and recognises businesses that influence a positive impact to the environment, workplace, community and inventions. In the year 2019, the awards ceremony saw 43 SMEs coming from Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and Hong Kong bagging a total of 59 Brands for Good awards across 4 main categories, namely, Workplace, Community, Environment and Patents.

CarbonCare® Event Label

CarbonCare® Event is a unique way for corporations and event organisers to demonstrate carbon caring actions. It encourages the reduction and offsetting of carbon emissions generated from organising and participating in the events.

CCA’s carbon audit professionals will verify the measurement, reduction and offsetting procedures and a CarbonCare® Event Label will be awarded to successful events. A certificate for the event and the offsets purchased will also be provided, alongside a carbon footprint assessment report.

申請資格 :

  1. 任何機構包括上市公司、私人公司、公共機構、社會企業及非政府組織，均可申請。
  2. 申請機構須根據國際最佳實踐守則認可的準則，界定排放基準線，編製排放清單，並核證其碳減排或碳抵消的表現。
  3. 「低碳關懷標籤」設有六種不同級別，代表申請機構在減碳方面取得的成就。標籤上葉片的數量代表該機構在申請年份相較基準年所達致的碳減排量：綠色標籤1至5片葉分別代表5%（減碳起動）、20%、40%、60%以及80%的減排量。

CarbonCare® Champion Label

Eligibility criteria:

  1. The applicant must demonstrate that it has taken all practical steps to reduce its carbon footprint by fulfilling either one of the following criteria:
    1. achieve at least 5% GHG reduction in the application year against a defined base year; or
    2. provide documentary evidence that a carbon reduction target in the application year has been endorsed by the management and that practical measures are taken to meet such target.
  2. The residual GHG emissions should be fully offset by purchasing and retiring accredited carbon credits with internationally accepted standards, such as VCS, CDM, CCB, Gold Standard VER or equivalent.
  3. The documentary evidence of carbon reduction and the types of carbon credits for offset must be disclosed to the public together with the verification statement of the GHG inventory.

低碳關懷ESG標籤

申請資格 :

申請機構目前的環境、社會及管治報告

  1. 已遵守香港交易所的《環境、社會及管治報告指引》所列載一般披露責任及環境的關鍵績效指標的「不遵守就解釋」條文；及
  2. 已披露以下四個範疇最少其中一個：
    1. 管治架構，包括董事會對公司環境、社會及管治範疇相關事項的問責；或
    2. 透過特定持份者溝通方式進行的重要性評估；或
    3. 在《環境、社會及管治報告指引》的八個社會層面（B1 – B8）中披露至少五個層面的關鍵績效指標；或
    4. 與氣候變化相關的政策及緩解風險的行動。
  3. 「低碳關懷ESG標籤」分四個級別頒發，視乎申請機構的成就是上述（2）所述範疇中的一項、兩項、三項或是四項。

CarbonCare® Circularity Label

Eligibility criteria:

  1. All organisations including listed companies, private companies, public bodies, social enterprises and NGOs are eligible to apply.
  2. The applicant must have conducted an independent waste audit at least once every three years, or a waste snapshot survey at least once within the past year.
  3. The applicant must have a record of all its purchased paper products within the past year.
  4. Having achieved a minimum percentage of recycled paper and recycling rate considering all purchased paper products. 

There are five CarbonCare® Circularity Labels representing different levels of circularity achievement.

CarbonCare® Construction (Process) Label

CarbonCare® Construction (Process) Label

Eligibility criteria:

  1. All organisations which operate and manage construction project sites are eligible to apply.
  2. The entity must establish its project site emissions inventory within a clearly defined boundary annually. Reductions and offset performance are validated and verified in accordance with a specific protocol based on international best practice.
  3. The entity is advised to use recognised emissions factor databases and methodologies to understand the greenhouse gas emissions of the construction processes of the project site.
  4. The entity must provide documentary evidence to demonstrate the carbon reduction measures currently taken.
  5. There are six CarbonCare® Construction (Process) Labels representing different levels of achievement in the construction process in terms of GHG reduction* – with green labels in one, two, three, four and five levels recognising the achievement of 5% (starter), 20%, 40%, 60%, and 80% emissions and a gold CarbonCare® Construction (Process) Champion Label indicating the achievement of carbon neutrality in the construction process.

* GHG Reduction – carbon reduction of the construction process by comparing the Business As Usual (BAU) practices against the adopted carbon reduction measures (e.g. BAU practices use diesel to generate electricity; carbon reduction measures use bio-diesel or other types of renewable energy). BAU is based on prevailing mainstream practices.

 

CarbonCare® Construction (Process) Champion Label

Eligibility criteria:

  1. The entity must attain at least the Level 1 CarbonCare® Construction (Process) Label;
  2. The entity must fully offset the residual GHG emissions by purchasing and retiring accredited carbon credits with internationally accepted standards, such as VCS, CDM, CCB, Gold Standard VER or equivalent; and
  3. The entity must disclose to the public documentary evidence of its carbon reduction measures, the verification statement of related GHG inventory, and the type(s) of carbon credits used for offset.

CarbonCare® Construction (Material) Label

Eligibility criteria:

Reductions and offset performance are validated and verified in accordance with a specific protocol based on international best practice.
  3. The entity is advised to use the CIC Carbon Assessment Tool or other recognised emissions factor databases and methodologies to understand the greenhouse gas emissions of the embodied carbon of construction materials.
  4. The entity must provide documentary evidence to demonstrate the carbon reduction measures currently taken.
  5. There are six CarbonCare® Construction (Material) Labels representing different levels of achievement in GHG reduction* associated with embodied carbon of construction materials used in the project – with green labels in one, two, three, four and five levels recognizing the achievement of 5% (starter), 20%, 40%, 60%, and 80% emissions and a gold CarbonCare® Construction (Material) Champion Label indicating the achievement of carbon neutrality in embodied carbon of construction materials consumption.

*GHG Reduction – carbon reduction of the construction materials by comparing the Business As Usual (BAU) practices against the adopted renewable/carbon reduction materials or products (e.g. BAU practices use traditional concrete; carbon reduction measures use concrete with carbon capture and storage technology). BAU is based on prevailing mainstream practices.
