Climate Finance Asia CEO Alan To Honored as Sustainability Leadership A-List 2025 Awardee
Hong Kong SAR, June 5, 2025 – Climate Finance Asia is proud to announce that our CEO, Alan To, has been recognized as one of the Asia Pacific’s most impactful sustainability leaders by being named to the prestigious Sustainability Leadership A-List 2025. This accolade, awarded by Eco-Business, highlights Alan’s exceptional contributions to advancing sustainable finance and driving impactful change across the region.
Under Alan To’s leadership, Climate Finance Asia has achieved several groundbreaking milestones:
- The World’s First Facility-Level Just Transition Guidelines for Banks: Formed an industry-wide working group comprising international banks, philanthropies, and NGOs, and led the launch of the world’s first facility-level just transition guidelines for banks, helping financial institutions to incorporate just transition principles into their financial transactions to achieve a sustainable and equitable transition. These guidelines are being engaged with various industry stakeholders to aid in developing their transition plans.
- Accelerating the Transition of Power Plants from Fossil Fuels in Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) Countries: Collaborated with a global association to systematically analyze and develop strategic mechanisms that incentivize financial institutions and power plant owners to expedite the retirement of coal assets and transition toward sustainable energy infrastructures in countries part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative, including those in Southeast and Central Asia.
Water Cheung, chairman, expressed his pride in Alan’s achievement, stating, “Alan’s visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to sustainability have been instrumental in positioning Climate Finance Asia at the forefront of sustainable finance. This recognition is a testament to his dedication and the positive impact he has made in the industry.”
Beyond his professional role, Alan’s founding and leadership of community initiatives have kept him grounded in the realities of climate change and the urgent need for action. His two social enterprises – Yum Cha Together, which encourages community building through cultural events, and Aromafunapy, which incorporates aromatherapy into wellbeing and nature – have sought to help companies fulfill their commitments to society and the environment. As a weekend farmer, he has seen first hand how his farming community’s crops have been affected by unpredictable weather driven by climate change.
The Sustainability Leadership A-List 2025 celebrates individuals who have made significant contributions to sustainability, influencing policies and business practices to create a more sustainable and equitable world. Alan To’s recognition underscores his role as a leading figure in the sustainability movement and his commitment to driving positive change.
