Climate Finance Asia hosted the book launch webinar for “Coal Power Phase-Out in Asia“, edited by our Chief Economist Prof. Farhad Taghizadeh-Hesary, and published by World Scientific.

The book examines how Asian economies can accelerate the transition away from coal-fired power while maintaining energy security, economic stability, and social inclusion.

Drawing on evidence from Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Japan, and China, the book highlights key challenges, including financing risks, long-term power purchase agreements, and policy uncertainty, and explores practical solutions through innovative finance, policy reforms, and just transition measures.

The webinar brought together the editor and contributors to share key findings, country experiences, and practical pathways toward a fair, inclusive, and economically viable coal power phase-out across Asia.

As many Asian economies continue to balance decarbonization goals with growing energy demand, the webinar provided valuable insights into actionable and investable pathways for coal power transition across the region, highlighting practical solutions to support a fair, inclusive, and economically viable energy transition.
