Hong Kong’s first Carbon Care Wedding organised by Carbon Care Asia just took place on 9 Feb 2009 at the beautiful Kowloon Shangri-la Hotel Ballroom. Witnessed by more than 350 guests and family members, the bride and groom expressed their concern for climate change and appealed for support to make their wedding carbon neutral.
Using the carbon emission calculation table designed by CCA, the guests reported their carbon footprint incurred by the mode of transport they used. When this was added to the electricity consumed, water and food waste incurred by the hotel for the banquet, total emission was close to 5 tonnes. To offset this, the bride and groom called on the guests to donate to renewable energy projects. CCA was commissioned to use the donation collected that night to purchase carbon credit from two such projects in Mainland China and Germany.
