Congratulations to our Chief Economist for receiving the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan Commendation

On February 25, 2025, Dr. Farhad Taghizadeh-Hesary, Chief Economist of Climate Finance Asia, was honored with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan Commendation.

Each year, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan recognizes individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to fostering international friendship, enhancing mutual understanding, and strengthening cultural, scientific, and diplomatic ties between Japan and other nations.

This year, 84 individuals and organizations worldwide were selected for this prestigious honor, including Dr. Taghizadeh-Hesary, in recognition of his efforts to expand scientific and academic relations between Japan and Iran. The commendation was officially conferred by H.E. Mr. Tamaki Tsukada, Ambassador of Japan to Iran, during a ceremony at his residence in Tehran.

For several years, Dr. Taghizadeh-Hesary has played a key role in supporting Japanese government scholarship (MEXT) applicants, organizing orientation sessions hosted by the Embassy of Japan in Tehran. He has also served as an advisor to the embassy, providing guidance on promoting the scholarship, refining selection criteria, and expanding its reach within the Iranian academic community.

As an alumnus of Keio University in Japan and a former MEXT scholar, his contributions extend well beyond his work with the embassy. Now an Associate Professor in Japan, he has spearheaded multiple research collaborations in fields such as energy economics, finance, sustainability, and Islamic banking. These efforts have led to numerous joint publications, including journal articles, books, and policy papers, as well as international workshops, seminars, and conferences. Beyond academia, he has also led consulting projects for Japanese companies in Iran.

For over a decade, Dr. Taghizadeh-Hesary has been a vital bridge between Japan and Iran, fostering friendship, academic, scientific, and professional collaboration between the two nations.
