InterContinental Hong Kong, one of the green hotel revolutionaries in Asia, was interviewed on 5th January, 2011 by Tonic, a US-based digital media company. Harvey Wong, Director of Engineering of InterContinental Hong Kong said that greening is very important to the hotel since it is their responsibility as a global citizen and they want to ensure that they are not only in line with industry best practices, but are also a leader in environmental conservation.
Carbon Care Asia (CCA), as partner to InterContinental Hong Kong, fully supports the hotel’s pioneering initiatives to become Hong Kong’s first hotel to provide a variety of carbon care solutions and packages to its meeting and event clients. These solution packages include a simple event assessment, carbon measurement, suggestions for carbon reduction, plus options of carbon offset, along with official verification options. Since last autumn, the hotel has also launched “Low-Carbon Menus” which are designed with the guidance and certification from CCA. Such menus include food items like vegetables and fruits that are in season in the Asia Pacific region, as they are generally lower in carbon footprints.
With CCA support, InterContinental Hong Kong will continue to go green in 2011 with even greater initiatives and efforts.
