Carbon Care Asia shared ESG reporting tips at the Hong Kong Institute of Chartered Secretaries (2017 年 10 月 11 日)

On 11 October 2017, Carbon Care Asia was invited to share its experience as professional consultant at the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) training workshop organised by the Hong Kong Institute of Chartered Secretaries (HKICS). By offering an analysis of ESG reporting from different perspectives, representatives of CCA sought to inspire participants to make better preparations for future reporting tasks.

Mr John Sayer, Director of CCA, pinpointed five trends in sustainability reporting, including more accurate and comparable standards, the impact of big data on ESG reporting, the importance of small data, materiality in reporting and reporting according to the Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the United Nations.

In response to the requirement by the Hong Kong Exchange and Clearing Limited for listed companies to report their environmental key performance indicators (KPIs) beginning on 1 January 2017, Ms Chloe Mok, Director of Sustainability Services of CCA, explained the 12 environmental KPIs under the three aspects of “Emissions”, “Use of Resources” and “The Environmental and Natural Resources” and offered reporting tips.

Ms Edith Yiu, Senior Sustainability Consultant of CCA, pointed out several common challenges facing first-year ESG reporters, such as data collection and verification, formulation of an internal reporting taskforce and persuading various departments to cooperate.

As part of the Enhanced Continuing Professional Development training organised by HKICS, the event attracted over a hundred members, which is a reflection of the growing importance of ESG reporting within corporate operation.
