CCA is proud to have made the world and Hong Kong’s first carbon neutral Dragon Boat Race possible on 9 May 2010, through innovative partnership with the Hong Kong Island Paddle Club (HKIPC).
A total of 75 teams and 1,800 racers and volunteers participated in the 11th annual Deep Water Bay Dragon Boat Race organised by the HKIPC, a club committed not just to competitive racing but also to environmental care. Mr Walter Colgan, Sponsor Secretary for the HKIPC, described the club’s partnership with organisations such as Carbon Care Asia as the “important ingredient in race success” in his thank you letter to CCA. He also found the race day “beneficial in bringing awareness to the paddling community on carbon initiatives programs.”
With CCA support and partial sponsorship, carbon emissions incurred by the 11th Deep Water Bay Dragon Boat Race was offset through credits from the NW Sichuan Afforestation and Reforestation Project, which benefits the climate, the local community and biodiversity.
